To believe in God do you have shut off your brain? We don't think so. Explore the truth and decide for yourself.
Is God real? Are you wondering if there's really a God? Or, are you wondering which 'God' to believe in? If you are, you're not alone. Most have to get answers to those questions at some point in their lives. For many, the answers given just don't seem to work, and faith doesn't come so easily. There are real, logical answers though that drive many bright, educated, intellectual thinkers from all faiths and religious backgrounds to a deep confidence in the God of the Bible and in Jesus as the human manifestation of Him.
Science is a wonderful faith builder. Someone once noted that there is no disagreement between science and the Bible, but only between scientists and preachers. Just a little observation will reveal that plenty of men and women from both disciplines come to the table of discussion with agendas other than simply discovering truth. Christians often make statements about science that are not well thought out, not well educated, and sometimes just plain ugly.
On the other hand, science doesn't even address the spiritual and yet some scientists leave their disciplines of training and enter into the field of religion in which they are often poorly educated. Dr. Robert Jastrow, Founder of NASA's Institute for Space Studies observed, 'For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have sitting there for centuries.' Einstein once said, 'My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.' About science and religion he stated, 'Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind.' We believe this to be the truth.
The fact is, the divine origin of the Bible can actually be seen through the scientific revelation in it. The authors of the Bible books would have had no way of knowing about most of the science behind their writings. Only a superior race or a supernatural being could have been behind their insights. There's no record of any superior race that had such knowledge, therefore, it is certainly not unsafe to assume that there was a supernatural being such as the God of the Bible behind their information.
A further push toward belief in the God of the Bible can come from comparing its bold claim of exclusive truth. Either the Bible is the true book of God, or it is garbage. Either Jesus was the Son of God or he was a liar or lunatic. C. S. Lewis commented,
The fact is, there are many internal as well as external indications of the Bible's divine origin. These come from philosophical, historical, geographical, and sociological vantage points, among others. History continues to support the Scripture. Certainly, as with all human endeavors, Christianity and its faith has been soiled with the imperfections of many of its adherents. Some imperfections may be small but some are glaring. However, the failures of those who might harbor untruths should in no way hide the real truth. In other words, one's search for the truth of God should not be skewed by any observations made of those who might believe in God. The truth must be looked at with the most independent, objective eyes possible. Then, the results of any conclusions about truth should be tested in the laboratory of life to see its outcomes.
So if you're out there looking for the truth about God, keep looking. Jesus said, 'Seek and you will find.' This author can attest to that, as can countless others. Jesus also said, 'The truth will set you free.' Truth is self-evident in the end. And, it is so freeing. You'll get there if you keep at it.
